Frequently asked questions

What is LUFS, and why -14?

LUFS (Loudness Units relative to Full Scale) estimates perceived loudness across a program rather than looking only at signal peaks. −14 LUFS is a common reference target for spoken-word and online distribution, not a universal platform standard. Services can apply different targets or playback adjustments.

How is normalizing different from just making it louder?

Turning up gain raises every sample equally and can push peaks into clipping. Normalization adjusts overall level from measured integrated loudness. It does not make every section equally loud; add compression when you want to reduce the dynamic range between quieter and louder passages.

Will it clip or distort?

Export uses FFmpeg loudnorm with a −14 LUFS integrated-loudness target and a −1.5 dBTP true-peak ceiling. The ceiling reduces clipping risk, but lossy encoding and downstream playback can still alter peaks. Preview is an approximation; the rendered export is authoritative.

Is my audio private?

Normalization and export run in your browser without uploading audio. Optional AI Enhance and Transcript actions are separate server features and disclose that path before you run them.
