What is LUFS, and why -14?

LUFS (Loudness Units relative to Full Scale) measures perceived loudness the way your ears actually hear it, not just raw signal peaks. -14 LUFS is the target Spotify and YouTube normalize to, so mastering to it means your audio plays back at a consistent, expected loudness on those platforms.

How is normalizing different from just making it louder?

Turning up the volume raises the peak level and can push audio into clipping. Loudness normalization targets perceived loudness across the whole track using the EBU R128 loudnorm standard, so quiet and loud sections end up evenly balanced instead of just uniformly boosted.

Will it clip or distort?

No. Output is true-peak limited at -1.5 dBTP, which keeps the loudest moments below the point where inter-sample peaks would distort — so you get consistent loudness without clipping.

Is my audio private?

Yes. Normalization and export run in your browser — your audio is never uploaded to a server.
