Why does the GIF look grainy or banded?

GIF is limited to a 256-color palette, so photographs and smooth gradients must be quantized down, which can introduce visible banding or dithering. Logos, screenshots, and flat-color graphics usually convert cleanly because they rarely exceed 256 colors in the first place.

Will the GIF be smaller than the BMP?

Yes, dramatically — BMP stores raw uncompressed pixels while GIF applies palette-based LZW compression. For flat-color graphics the reduction is excellent; for photos, JPG or WebP would compress better still.

Will the output GIF be animated?
